Windows 7

  • Playing: Aion
So I installed Windows 7 yesterday. Those of you with college email addresses go check out [link] ; most likely you can get it for $30.

It's pretty darned awesome. Some people have reported massive reductions in memory overhead vs. Vista; it's about the same for me although dwm.exe is 1/7 the size it used to be.
The UI's pretty different from Vista but I think mostly in a good way. I can't get over how the glow on the taskbar icons follows my cursor. :D
The way it handles desktop wallpapers is completely new, and I absolutely love it. First of all, they FINALLY added the option to scale an image and maintain its aspect ratio instead of just stretch/center/tile (should have been in Windows 98, honestly, but whatever :P )! Furthermore, instead of just picking an image you can point it at a folder and it'll shuffle through all of them (or a subset, if you want) on a customizable time delay. It's pretty much a gimmick for most people, but I have well over 400 wallpapers, so this is pretty much the best feature I've ever seen. :la:

Also, HOLEY CARP THEY UPDATED MSPAINT! It's still got the usual pixel tools, but it actually has antialiasing and brushes now! Mind you, it's CRAP antialiasing and brushes, but hey it wouldn't be MSPaint if it wasn't a piece of garbage, now would it? :)

Supposedly it's a pretty big performance improvement in games; I haven't tested it since the only things I'm playing right now are osu!, which could run on a netbook, and Aion, which has a stupidly inefficient engine...

Overall I'd say it's a whole lot better than Vista. Probably not worth spending retail price on, but if you can get it for $30 it's definitely worth the money.

Also, pretty much the first site I checked after getting it up and running was Penny Arcade, and I was greeted with this: [link]

Put a digitally hand-drawn comic on BZP and one of the members compared it to your stuff (even though it's quite different).
After having enjoyed your Bionicle related comics, I noticed the Deviantart link in your profile.

Well, even though you put some serious skill in those comics, you've truly come a long way since that. Your gallery is definitely very impressive, so I guess I'll have to watch you :)

Awesome artwork! d^^b

thanks for the fave.

Ahah, I need to catch you on AIM.

Got all the Gojou Kai MP3 clips (at least all the ones I have) put together in the correct order - Ultimate Truth, Border of Life, Voyage, Touhou Youkai Komachi, and Higan no Tsuka. I think I'm missing one that goes before Ultimate Truth, I dunno... comes in around 12 minutes or so. Now only if we could have a map this long :p

Yeah, "Tsuepeshu No Osanaki Matsuei" comes first. The song's awesome but I really, really hate the map for it. The spacing's horribly awkward and the slider velocity keeps changing. It basically feels like you're fighting the map the whole time... I'm not sure I've even managed to pass it yet.

...Also, what's your AIM screenname? I don't seem to have you on my buddy list.

Yeah, I didn't get that one. Oh well. I did manage to pass all the rest in some manner or form though. :p

I'll note it to ya, hold on.

Haha, I beat your score on Time to Fly on osu... by like 1000 points or something silly like that. :p

Lol, nice. :D
I got it back though. :DD
...Weirdly enough, I went to the osu website during some downtime in my programming class and saw your name and that song in the "last five played" box.

I am going to S that song unless it kills me first! :o

Yaaaaaay. : D
Yeah my timing was SOOOO off on all of the stacks at the beginning - I only surpassed your score cause I got a huge combo, I guess. xD;
And I am just aiming for a B. Yep. considering no living soul has ever goten an S on that map. (Dreaming big, huh Th3w ;P)

Well, there aren't any S's YET, but that's probably just because the really top players haven't gotten serious with it. I'm sure Cyclone, Rolled, and a few others are more than capable.
At this point I've gotten the timing down well enough that there's nowhere I always miss; it's just a question of managing to string together a perfect run...

Besides, it's a Darrihuka map. I tend to see his maps as enemies over which I must triumph. :P
